Sharp Objects (2018)Sharp Objects
Date Read Amy Adams, Patricia Clarkson, Chris Messina

A reporter confronts the psychological demons from her past when she returns to her hometown to cover a violent murder.

Bite-Sized Review:

Despite having read the book and knowing the plot Sharp Objects still had me on the seat of my chair.  It is a series I wish I could see again for the first time.  It is dark, secretive, and has the creepiest, perfect pacing.  Amy Adams and Eliza Scanlen play off each other amazingly and convey the perfect jagged-edge sisterhood.  As amazing as Amy is, in my opinion, Patricia Clarkson is the star.  Her slightly off demeanor is just as, if not more alarming than the murder at hand.  Her performance had me questioning everything and kept me guessing what she was hiding.

I really liked that the film was female-focused, that is where the meat of the story is and what I really wanted to sink my teeth into.  However, I’m not going to lie, Chris Messina’s appearances added a certain something to the film, and his doggedness unearthed family secrets that would have otherwise stayed buried.

Sharp Objects will keep you up late at night with “just one more episode”.  My recommendation, watch Sharp Objects and stay for the credits, there is a haunting easter egg that will have you thinking of the series’ conclusion long after Sharp Objects has finished.
