Just in the past few years I wanted to read The Wizard of Oz to my kids and I discovered that there are quite a few Oz stories that I never knew about. Did you run across this when you were finding a copy to read? The movie version is based only on Baum's first Oz story, and there are (if I remember right) 20 more stories in "The Oz Chronicles."
I downloaded the Wizard of Oz because I don't think I have ever read the book!
Every year I try to read at least one classic. Last year we did The Wizard of Oz with a children's book club at work. The girls love it, and we were able to entice them into discussion by talking about the differences between the book and the movie.
How fun to read Wicked and then follow it up with The Wizard of Oz! Did you enjoy Wicked? We read it for book club a couple years back and it was a fun review!

Amelia– I loved Wicked!
Stephanie– I really enjoyed Wicked but I think this book is hit or miss for people's preferences.
Kathy– My mom is a major Oz fan so I had a couple copies laying around. There are 14 books written by L. Frank Baum and numerous written by others. Although, the '39 movie is based on the first book.

amcatoir– The Wizard of Oz is a great discussion book for young adults.
Sheila&Kate– It was a nice progression, but I think Wizard of Oz to Wicked would have been better. (and thank you Kate!)
I loved Wicked! And some of the later stories of Oz are among my favorite, are you planning to read some of the other books after you get through the first Oz book?
I'm not sure… Haven't thought about it yet.
I haven't read Wizard of Oz in AGES! I ought to soon and I hope you're enjoying it 🙂
