Last Saturday I saw the new A Star is Born with my mom and sister-in-law.  I love Judy Garland and James Mason who starred in the 1954 version so I went in with a critical eye.  I enjoyed it, the music was good and I thought Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper gave stand-up performances, but I think having seen the other three versions colored my view and left me a little cynical.  However, my sister-in-law who had no idea it was a remake loved it.  My verdict is see it, you wouldn’t be disappointed either way, although you may judge it a little more harshly if you’ve seen the other adaptations.

  1. I’ve only seen the 1976 version of A Star Is Born, with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, so I am a little nervous, since I loved that movie! I can’t imagine anything being better…but I’ve heard good reviews of the new one.

Thanks for sharing. I loved The Tenth Circle, and have Jodi Picoult’s newest book, which I can’t wait to read. (A Spark of Light).

Liked the James Mason/Judy Garland Version mostly due to James Mason, Hated the Kristofferson/Streisand Version, and after realizing I needed to give up on the old and let in the new admitted I Loved the Cooper/Lady Gaga Version.
