Top Ten Books I Recommend The Most

Posted March 26, 2013 by Whitney in Top Ten Tuesday / 11 Comments

In not particular order:
  1. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen: the best intellectual romance out there.
  2. Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell: Beautiful vivid writing with an engrossing, epic story
  3. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn: I love anything by this author but this in particular has great pacing and a twisting storyline with despicable characters.
  4. 11/22/63 by Stephen King:  This was the first King book I had ever read (although I have seen some movies).  The what if? factor is incredible and the author’s elegant writing had me rereading sentences soly because of it.
  5. In Cold Blood by Truman Capote:  True crime books are the only scary books that actually scare me.  I know Norman Bates is fictional by Hannibal Lecter was based on real persons, and that’s how I feel about In Cold Blood.  Capote’s writing is eerily brilliant and created something very difficult — empathy for the murderers.
  6. Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling:  A fabulous fantasy series.  I’ve read this series every year since its publication starting when I was 11, so there maybe some nostalgia here as well.
  7. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak:  I cry every time I read this tragic book which for me is very hard to do.
  8. Lord of the Rings Trilogy by J.R.R.: For me, this is the grown-up equivalent of Harry Potter.
  9. Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris: With a sick humor, this book has me laughing out loud every time.
  10. Cane River by Lalita Tademy:  A wonderful piece of historic fiction.  Whenever I see Cane River at a garage sale I pick it up to give to another bookish friend of mine — it is just that good.

  1. I just got Gone Girl and I look forward to reading it, as well as LotR, still haven't read those. :X Not to mention the classics… Ooft, I have a lot of work! 😀

Thanks for stopping by, and happy reading 😀

  2. Of course Pride and Prejudice is on the top of my list, too 😉

David Sedaris is so funny and I enjoyed In Cold Blood, too. MUST read Gone with the Wind and 11/22/63 soon!

  3. You've read Harry Potter every year since its publication?! Would you like to be my new best friend? lol
I really need to read Pride and Prejudice. I've owned a copy for 10-12 years and every year I promise myself I'll read it but I haven't yet. This is the year though!
Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier!

  4. 11/22/63 was my second King and blew me away–I should've included that in my own list, because I have recommended it a lot, but I'm not sure anyone has taken me up on it. Great book.

I would like to finally read Cold Blood–I just have to get it and then wait for the right mood. I know it will be good, but disturbing.

I'm just going to have to read The Book Thief–it gets recommended so often!

Fun list–I enjoyed seeing what you always seem to be recommending.

  5. Ah, so many favourites on here. I loved seeing Pride and Prejudice at the top of your list. Jane has been getting me through a few bad weeks. She's good at that! 🙂
