Thursday Tea: Gone with the Wind

Thursday Tea is a weekly meme hosted by Anastasia at Birdbrain{ed} Book Blog. To play along, all you need is some tea, a book, and the will to answer some very simple questions: what tea are you drinking (and do you like it)? What book are you reading (and do you like it)? Tell us a little about your tea and your book, and whether or not the two go together.

The Book:
Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
The title or “catch phrase” really says it all, “A Civilization Gone with the Wind”.  Or, Scarlett O’Hara is the epitome of a young southern girl, pretty, vivacious and naive to the world around her.  All that changes when the civil war begins throwing away all that she once held dear.  This small description doesn’t even begin to cover the fantasticalness of Gone with the Wind but will have to do for a short summary.
The Tea:
While I’m still not going crazy with different fruity/herbal teas Typhoo is without a doubt my favorite, and can’t get around where I live so is always a treat to drink.
“Typhoo Tea is a strong breakfast tea Introduced in Birmingham, England in 1903 by John Sumner Jr., Typhoo Tea was originally created to ease stomach ailments and aid with digestion. The same method still used today, Typhoo was made with particles of tea leaves rather than the whole leaf. The name “Typhoo” was chosen for John’s tea, as it translates to “doctor” in Chinese.”
 The Assessment:
While I couldn’t see Scarlett drinking tea, I think this may go over well with the occupants at one of the many Atlanta hospitals, to help aid the men in gray when other treatments could not be provided.

  1. Typhoo tea is one of my favourites as it has a nice strong taste.
I have Gone with the Wind on my shelves to be read – I've had it for 20 years, every since a mature student of mine gave it to me to read 'for pleasure'. I've seen the film many times and now must dig out the book and read it!

  2. I am ridiculously fussy about my tea and just don't have the guts to change what I drink or experiment. My mug of tea brightens my day and if that is lost, woe betide anyone who tries to annoy me 🙂 It's great the way you experiment but the very thought of drinking anything else but my beloved mug of green tea with lemon makes me cringe in horror :-/

  3. Lynda — Dig it out and crack the spine, it's wonderful!

Vaishnavi — LOL! I'm glad not to be the only one who's picky about their tea, but I try to branch out once in a while. Have you ever tried Newman's green tea? It's very tasty.
