Off the Blog

Today is my dad’s birthday so we have been celebrating that. Otherwise, this week was very low-key having dinner with friends (and I don’t mean Rachel Green) I also have to admit that my inner true crime fan won and watched Dr. Phil’s interview with Burke Ramsey. It is hard to believe Jonbenet’s death was almost twenty years ago and remains unsolved.

My Thoughts

And Then There Were None is the first book I have read by Agatha Christie and was very much impressed by her writing skills of suspense and weaving a good mystery as well as adding “Easter Eggs” to the plot. I think I could read this book three more times and still pick up tidbits I missed in previous reads.

Clawback is another good addition to the Ali Reynolds series. While the book has an interesting plot on Ponzi schemes it did drag a little at the end. However, in the end is worth the read.

  1. I loved Little Face. It was my first book read by this author, whose books I now grab whenever I get a chance.

I have set my DVR for the Jon-Benet Ramsey mini-series. I can’t believe it’s been 20 years already! It’s hard to imagine a case going unsolved that long, but they didn’t have the tools back then, I guess, and they spent so much time looking in the wrong places.

Enjoy your week, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

  2. I’ve read very little Christie and that seems like one of her go-to’s. I do want to read some of her stuff, either that one or maybe Death on the Nile, which just sounds fun. 🙂

  3. You’ve probably chosen the best Agatha Christie to start with, now you’re hooked! 🙂 Another great ones are the Orient Express, and Roger Ackroyd. I also really like Death in the Sky. There are some weaker mysteries by her out there, but now that you know what she CAN do, I hope stumbling on a not-very great Christie book won’t completely discourage you.

  4. I was a major Agatha Christie fan growing up, the Poirot novels were my absolute favourites, though I’ve come to have a bit of a soft spot for Miss Marple as I’ve gotten older. In a funny way I think murder mysteries like Christie’s can be quite comforting to read, because no one even gets murdered randomly by some mystery crazy person, and the bad guys typically get caught in the end. It’s all very reassuring, actually!
