Q: What are your favorite genres in books?

A: I mainly read fiction but my favorite sub-genre is historical fiction.  Reading in general can carry you to far off lands with a Reading Rainbow “I can go anywhere” mentality but for me historical novels take it to a whole other level for me and completely transports me.

Q: Why did you start your blog?

A: Probably like most book bloggers I started a book blog due to my love of reading and needed a outlit to talk about Harry Potter and Jane Austen and discuss a book lover’s greatest question — what are you reading.

Beginning:

Prologue
As their peculiar perfume is the chief association with spices, so sorcery is allied in every memory to gypsies.

Page 56:

“We plan to go to the Villa Mondragone and do some research in the library there, assuming we will be allowed to. I hope to meet Signora De Rosa while we are there as well.”

My Thoughts:

The beginning has me wondering what memories the gypsies in this story hold and the 56 again has me curious who Signora De Rosa is and the knowledge she holds.

The Cadence of Gypsies by Barbara Casey

On her 18th birthday Carolina Lovel learned that she was adopted and was given a letter written by her birth mother in an unknown language. After years of research she travels to Italy on a mission to find the truth about her past. Carolina is accompanied by three extremely gifted but mischievous students the FIGs from Wood Rose Orphanage and Academy for Young Women. In an effort to help their favorite teacher, the FIGs will have to use their special abilities to decipher the Voynich Manuscript, the most mysterious document in the world, and the one thing that is strangely similar to what Carolina was given. Their search will take them into the mystical world of gypsy tradition and magic, more exciting and dangerous than any of them could have imagined.

  2. I love historical fiction and nonfiction! There is something special about being transported back in time through reading! Bloglovin’ follower! 😀

  3. I did the blogger hop as well this week! I will talk someones ear off about some Harry Potter! 🙂

I love fiction as well, I was just never able to get into the whole historical fiction genre. Which blows because I have come across some amazing synopsis on books that sound like it would be an amazing book, but once I start reading, I never get far 🙁

Hi Whitney, I’m visiting from Book Beginnings at Rose City Reader!

This book definitely sounds intriguing. I like stories where the MC solves the riddle of their past! My favorite genre is cozy mysteries, and I’m quite fond of historical fiction as well. :O)

    Here’s my Book Beginnings.

Yes, that truly is our greatest question, isn’t it? I always want to know that, definitely. 🙂

I enjoy historical fiction too. It’s just one of the types of fiction, I like to read, but it’s definitely among my favorites.

I hope you have a great week!
