Femme Fatale Fridays: Lucy Westenra

Posted October 1, 2010 by Whitney in Femme Fatale / 6 Comments

“A femme fatale, translating to “Deadly Woman” in french, is an alluring, seductive woman whose charms ensnare her lovers in bonds of irresistible desire.  Often this leads them into compromising, dangerous   and deadly situations.” ~ Wikipeda

Lucy Westenra is a 19 year old from a wealthy family, who I guess you could say, mixed with wrong crowd.  She becomes engaged to Arthur Holmwood due to her good looks and sweet temperment.  This happiness is soon dashed after she becomes gravely ill and is diagnosed with anemia.  In reality, Count Dracula has been visiting her bedside each night for a midnight snack, slowly draining her of blood.

The vampire Dracula, has made Lucy a femme fatale due to the sexual orientation that comes from his extortion of her blood.  Marking her as a sexy, desirable woman that he himself has condemned.

  1. I'm glad to her you like Femme Fatale Fridays, it's always fun to route for the bad girl.
That is very cool that you named your cats after Dracula characters; if I had my way I'd rename mine Big Sam and Miss Pitty Pat from Gone with the Wind. The names fit them perfectly.

  2. Gone with the wind has perfect cat's names! I was thinking about Prissy and India.. Though I allways loved "Pitty Pat".. Gee – maybe I need much more cats.. ;") er.. no. – Not yet.. :")

You'd choose two really great names!

No one ever notices that my cats are named after Dracula characters – sometimes that makes me feel a bit bigheaded ( = I am soooo cultured!) :")

  3. Prissy is a great name, I love Butterfly McQueen. I can already see myself as a "cat lady"…

And I don't think Lucy and Mina make you sound bigheaded at all! Just mature.

  4. Oh man, I always LOVED Lucy! I mean, I rooted for Mina, but secretly, I kinda wanted to know Lucy. You know she had some fun. I wonder if anyone's done a story from her POV? Might be interesting…

  5. Yeah, I wish we'd got to known a little bit more about Lucy than just her blood type. I haven't heard of a book from her POV but there is a novel entitled Dracula, My Love from Mina's perspective.
