Bloggiesta Begins!

tackle blog to do do list during bloggiesta

It’s Bloggiesta time!  I’m very happy with my blog and think my upkeep is doing just fine until Bloggiesta rolls around and I see all the imperfections and improvements that need to be made.  This is a weekend blog improvement being Saturday and Sunday, yes the post is a few hours premature this just so much to do and so little time.
Here is what I’d like to accomplish:

  1. update reviews to include: book title, author (and link to their website) publisher (with link to their website) publication date and links to Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Goodreads
  2. prep reviews, meaning in add the above plus a description from Goodreads thus I only have to open draft post and include my thoughts
  3. update Netgalley profile
  4. create/schedule Top Ten Tuesday posts for September and October
  5. Catch up on commenting
  6. Participate in (at least) two mini-challenges
  7. Back-up template
  8. create back up blog on wordpress
  9. catch-up on email
  10. Prep High Summer Read-a-Thon post
  11. look into an commenting alternative, blogger’s is starting to annoy me, half the time it wouldn’t even allow me to reply to a comment. Any suggestions? Note: Angie at Angela’s Anxious Life suggested I reinstall my template and it worked!  Thanks Angie!

  1. The Blogger comment system drove me absolutely insane, to the point that I finally switched to Disqus. It's totally cut out spam, notifies when you have replies and gives you really good comment data. It's kind of a scary switch, but you can have all of your comments converted from Blogger so you won't lose any. Good luck with your goals!

  2. Good luck on your goals! I'm so glad I switched from Blogger to WordPress because the more Blogger updates it seemed the worse things became! I hope you're able to find a good commenting system alternative, I know Disqus is popular, I've also seen blogs with Livefyre but I'm not sure Livefyre works with Blogger blogs or not.

  3. I went through drama trying to fix the reply button on blogger. DRAMA. So I have no advice for you. I know of one other blog having that issue but blogger itself is saying it's not an issue… sooooo….. if I hadn't been able to fix it I probably would've switched to Disqus. Why are you backing up on wordpres??? I am curious if I should do this?

    • Drama is right, I would have been pulling my hair out with stress if that had happened to me. Also, I forgot to mention earlier that a few months ago blogger ate parts of my blog ie sidebar, which is another reason why I back up.

  4. Good luck completing all your goals this weekend!

I used WordPress.com, so I'm not too sure about comment alternatives. I do know that when I see blogs with Disquis, I don't comment because I get confused. I might have made an account twice and keep forgetting the log[in info and I don't want to make another or link to my Twitter or anything so…I just don't comment. However, I'm not sure whether my reaction is comment on not, so definitely get other opinions on the matter. 😉

    • Had to chime in here because this made me chuckle! I added a blog email address and think I created a new Disqus account by accident, forgetting that it wouldn't find me under the new email! I keep meaning to see if I can merge the two somehow, but never have.

    • The first few times I used Disqus I was confused too. I think the creating an account thing (even though I have one) is a bit of a deterrent which is what has held me back.

  5. I switched from Blogger to WP a long time ago, but I've had some commenting issues on WP lately, too. To make commenting on Blogger blogs easier for myself, I created a Blogger blog as a placeholder that would direct people on to my WP if they were interested, but let me comment using a blog-related Google account.

  6. Right now I'm working on setting up all the posts for the reviews I need to write and then I'll go back and add my thoughts. I also plan on updating all my old review posts to my current format, but don't see myself completing that this time around – just a start on that will do!

    Here are my plans.

Good luck with the rest of your tasks!

    • I completely agree that even a start on anything blog related is welcomed. I was able to prep a couple review posts today but I have a feeling the updating of past posts will have to wait until tomorrow.

  7. Look at you with a back up blog on WordPress!! Does it update automatically or do you have to go in and copy your posts every week or so? Are you switching soon?

Oh, and linking up publisher's sites – wow! That's new and going above and beyond! I link the authors and that's enough of a pain in the butt for me! I have to catch up on commenting sooooo badly, too!!!

    YOU GO GIRL!!!

    • I import my blogger blog to wordpress, they make it really easy. I was thinking I'd update every couple months. I don't think I'll be switching anytime soon but with all the talk about Google deleting blogs I thought it was better safe than sorry. If I were to do "the switch" I'd have to change a bunch of links and just don't have the energy.

As for linking the publisher, since I'm updating all my reviews I figured this was the perfect opportunity, its a little more time consuming but I think it will be worth it.

  8. Wow, you've been busy! I should go back and add more links to my reviews; I have all the author/pub information listed, but I only link to the book on Goodreads. Good luck finishing out your list!

    • I think its awesome that you got all your TTT posts for August done. I'm skipping August all together because my brother is getting married that month and know I will be too busy/crazy to participate in the meme. Hence, I am working on September and October's instead.

  9. Thanks so much for your visit to my Bloggiesta post! This was my first time and I'm so glad I took part as it got me excited to blog again. I had wanted to do it before but was wondering what could I possibly have to do, not being very serious about it until I sat down and thought for a bit, then of course my list ended up longer than I can do, but I can keep working on it! Have fun this week with the High Summer Read-a-thon, and I'll see ya there! 😉

  10. Thank you for returning the visit! My Bloggiesta list always starts out small and grows by the minute. I've always used Bloggiesta as a starting point or incentive to work on my blog.

I'm glad you're joining in on the High Summer Read-a-Thon, I've participated in Michelle's events for several years and always have a blast!
